The Packers gave their best effort of the year by beating the Arizona Cardinals 29-3. For the second week in a row the Packer defense did not give up a touchdown to the opposition. The defense was nothing short of outstanding again holding the Cardinals to only a field goal. The offense also put in a good performance with some good running from Ahman Green and good blocking from the offensive line. The Packer running game showed good versatility with the speed of Green and the hard running of Dorsey Levens. Brett Favre looked a little bit more like the old Brett by showing more mobility and accuracy on long pass to Bill Schroeder for a touchdown early in the game. From that point on the defense took over the game. The bottom line with this effort is pretty simple, blocking and tackling win games. The defensive schemes have convinced me they can be very effective when the players don’t miss tackles in the open field.
I have never been a big fan of Sharper because of his poor tackling, but he is really giving good effort this year. I hope it has nothing to do with his contract ending this year.
Favre was able to get more people to contribute on offense, which was one of the reasons they had success on Sunday. But I would like to see Henderson get a few more touches he runs hard and has very good hands for a fullback. In my last article I listed three match ups the Packers had to win, they won all three and won the game easily. The offensive linemen were prepared for Simion Rice and gave Favre time to throw. The defense maintained good coverage on the Arizona receivers and they kept Plummer from making the big play. The Pack played hard on both sides of the ball and it showed in the final score. It is tough not to get excited about a win, but keep in mind this was Arizona.
In the future I will try to keep my articles about the Pack, but there is something that I wanted to mention. I know the media will talk about the Terrell Owens low class display and Keshawn’s press conferences, but there is someone who showed class this week. That person is Wayne Chrebet, wide receiver for the Jets. He could have lowered himself to Keyshawn’s level by responding to Johnson’s remarks, but decided to catch a game winning touchdown instead. It’s great when a player does his talking on the field instead off the field. If I had a vote for the Bart Starr Award I know whom I would vote for. I would like to hear your opinions, so if you have time feel free to contact me.
