Is It Miller Time Yet?

It’s Monday night and we are already in the third week of the 2000 NFL season. Time flies when you are having fun. It is a little more fun this week too because the Green Bay Packers finally have won a game with a 6-3 victory over the Eagles. Thank God for Ryan Longwell and an improving defense. The only successful Eagle offensive threat was Duce Staley with 122 yards rushing. The good news we kept the Donovan McNabb led offense out of the end zone or we would have been 0-3. A victory is a victory no matter how Ugly the offense looked. The Packer offense had a 236 total yards but committed four turnovers (3 interceptions and one fumble). Favre please get it together. Congratulations to Mike Sherman on his first NFL victory as a head coach.

We appreciate all the emails from the players and visitors over the last few weeks. It’s great to see true Green Bay Packers fan staying true to the boys. We have also noticed a large increase in the number of players in our NFL Picks contest and it looks like this year’s race going to be a tight one. The player named "Greatest Picks" is fittingly in the lead, but "jmacgown" is on his tail. Speaking of people sending emails, I have been receiving multiple emails from one Bill Gallagher. I thought his thoughts on the Packers would be something we should share with all of you. Bill joins our staff with his new column called "The Pack-Like It Is." His "no holds barred" approach should prove to be good reading so check it out and let us know what you think.

I received a copy of a letter that Pewaukee Wisconsin native Doug Venenga sent to ABC sports regarding the controversial Monday night football commentator Dennis Miller. I thought we should share with all of you. Dennis is one of those you either love or hate. I love him as a comedian and "my jury is still out" on whether he should be involved with the NFL. I think Doug has some good thoughts on the problems with Dennis Miller the football analyst. Maybe he should keep his night job on "HBO’s Dennis Miller Live."

Doug Venenga writes to ABC Sports:

For years I looked forward to watching MNF with my two boys. My oldest son is soon to be 7 and we have enjoyed watching football together since he was just 4. Now with Dennis Miller on I don't feel comfortable allowing him to watch it. Comments about girls "lifting their shirts", and words like "naked" do not need to be used during a football broadcast. Last night after hearing his comments I was hopeful that he would be talked to and that he would be told to tame it some. But to my surprise ABC chose to boast about his comments on their web site as the number 1 (with audio clip) and 3rd best "Miller moments".

I admit that I was apprehensive about Miller broadcasting on MNF but I decided to give him a chance. I love football and I have been a loyal watcher of MNF for many years. I have some very fond memories of watching Monday Night games with my Dad and I excepted to be able to share times like that with my sons. I will still watch, but not without an A.M. radio nearby. My next letter will be to the NFL. I know that they care about their image and I can only hope that they will not allow ABC sports to tarnish it for them.
