Hello Packer fans! I was reading the 5/17 Milwaukee Journal Sports section when an article caught my eye. Apparently former Cowboys star Michael Irvin was asked on the Sirius Satelite NFL Radio show about Favre playing for Minnesota. This is his exact quote from the story.Quote: " Oh,come on, man. I can't understand this for the life of me I love Brett and appreciate his competitiveness and I appreciate the times he didn't listen to anyone. I remember the Monday night game after he lost his father and everybody said "Brett don't play. Just don't play Brett. It's too tough for You" He didn't listen. It was one of his greatest assets. But the reality is, now it's time for him to start listening. His greatest asset is becoming his greatest liability.I hate the fact that you're sitting here saying "you hate Ted Thompson that much that you're ready to kill each one of those Green Bay fans that cheered you on, that are going to put your kids through college? They made you the rich man that you are. Why kill them? Just let that thing go. Brett, stay retired and you can make umpteen millions of dollars on #4 jerseys in Green Bay. But if you go back to Green Bay wearing that Minnesota Jersey? Oh, that's a wrap buddy. You lose your whole legacy with that" Unquote.
I think Michael Irvin has nailed this one dead on! Everything he said is right on the money!! I don't have any illusions that Favre sits back home in Missisippi reading things like this column but, I do believe he would listen to what someone like an All-Pro like Irvin would say. Brett, irregardless of what happened between you and Ted, listen to Irvin and let it go. How many Packer fans from all over the world sent condolences when you lost, Irv, your Brother-in-Law, and your best friend? How many stood beside you and Deanna when she battled cancer? How many supported you through your Vicodin addiction? Is getting back at Thompson worth throwing that all away? The truth of the matter is Brett, that too many people talk for you. When you left for New York. YOU could have come out in the media when Ted was pressuring you for an answer on the retirement thing. If YOU would have done that, YOU could have put the monkey on HIS back!! Had the fans known the situation, Ted would have had to back down because the fans would have run him out of Green Bay on a rail.
Brett, don't let stubborn pride get in the way of the true affection that the fans of the Green Bay Packers have for you. Be the bigger man.Show up on "Brett Favre Day" and really make Teddy uncomfortable when Lambeau Field rises up as one and the field announcer says " From Southern Mississppi, #4 Quarterback Brett Farve!!!" Ted will hear the thunder and feel the love you will get from Packer fans worldwide. And then, he will always be remembered as the man who let Brett Favre go. That is the best revenge you could ask for. And the love and adulation you get from Packer Nation will be with you until the day you die. If you doubt that, ask some of the Packer legends like Bart Starr, Paul Hornung ,Wille Davis and Jerry Kramer.Even former teamates like LeRoy Butler,Dorsey Levens and Antonio Freeman know that feeling. That's what it's all about.
Until next time my friends, Peace.
