Hello Packer Fans! Well let me start out by apologizing to the Sports radio personalities who were right about Brett Favre. I am a man of my word and said in my previous article that if they were right I would print a full apology. Mea Cupla. Now that that is out of the way, "What in the heck is Favre doing"? First he 's retired. Then he cryptically hints at coming back. Then when Ted Thompson is ready to send a plane to Mississippi to bring Brett back so he can unretire he says no. Says he 's sure this time. All the while everyone and his mother is saying all kinds of things about the Packers. They didn't really want him back. Or, they may not have pushed him out the door but they didn't try to stop him either. NONSENSE! If Thompson and Coach McCarthy didn't want him back why were they ready to charter a plane, go get him , and have a press conference to welcome him back? Can anyone connected to Favre answer that one?
The thing that bothers me most and should bother all loyal Packer Backers is not once have we heard directly from the man himself. He talks to Jay Glazer at Fox Sports but not on the record. He talks to Chris Mortensen from ESPN. But if that is the case how come these conversations are not on videotape?
I think the problem is that when Mike Sherman ran the club he kissed Favre's butt and let him out of OTA'S , mini-camps and such because he didn't want to upset Brett. If you notice this didn't happen when Ron Wolf ran the show. Ted Thompson is a no-nonsense kind of guy. He won't put up with the media circus that is caused by the constant waffling by Favre. Sh** or get off the pot dude.
And what kind of message would that send to the rest of the team if they let Brett stroll back in and do exactly what he wants? Does anyone remember what happened in Minnesota when Denny Greene let the inmates run the asylum? It was chaos. The bickering between Daunte Culpepper, Randy Moss, and Chris Carter about who was more important on the sidelines, in the press and on national TV made the Vikings the laughing stock of the NFL. And then you have to ask" How fair is this to Aaron Rodgers?" The man put in the time to learn an offense that was tailored for his skill set. He was making the rounds at Fanfest. He was staying in Green Bay to go to "Quarterback School" with the rest of the qb's on the team roster. And where was Brett? Pulling out of celebrity golf tournaments and taking it easy.
Don't get me wrong. I love and respect what Brett has done for the Packers. But I have found a new respect for Ted Thompson. He told Favre and his agent that the team won't release him and if he wants to play this year it's as a back-up to Rodgers. Brett brought this on himself by hastily retiring before he was sure he wanted to. He could have asked for some time to think about it. He had the chance to come back and decided not to. And the worst thing he did was let other people do his talking for him. He should have manned up and handled this himself. All this adds up to one big ugly situation. And the ones who suffer the most are the fans. Until next time my friends, keep the faith.
