Hello Again my friends. The title speaks for it self. This truly was a test of survival. Luckily the defense stepped up in the 2nd half and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Green Bay beat Washington 17-14.
After a first quarter quick strike, Favre and company appeared that they would have their way with the 'Skins. But 2nd year quaterback Jason Campbell struck right back to tie the game. The Redskin offense outplayed the Packer defense all day. If it hadn't been for 3 turnovers and several dropped passes, the Pack would be looking at 4-2 instead of 5-1.
Brett Favre went back to pressing to try to keep the team in the game. He threw 2 interceptions which helped him break the most interceptions by a quarterback in a career. This is one record I am sure that Brett did not want to have. Thanks to some of the best defensive plays of this young season, the Washington Redskinsgo home with their second loss.
First, Corey Williams strips Clinton Portis of the ball and Charles Woodson scoops it up for what turns out to be the winning score on a 57 yard fumble return. With time running out and Washington needing 2 yards on 4th down, Nick Barnett snuffs out the swing pass and the ball is turned over on downs.
Before I get too carried away with the good the "D" did today let's not forget that Chris Cooley had 9 catches for 105 yds and a TD against this defense. In the last 2 games it seems that nobody knows who is supposed to cover the tight end. Last week it was the Bears who gashed them the same way that lead to the first loss of the season. Defensive coordinator Bob Sanders needs to get his linebackers on the same page when it comes to cover assignments.
The referees seemed to be a bit slanted today. How could they not call a force out what should have been a TD by Bubba Franks? And the holding calls seemed to be going one way as well. But what you going to do.
Now on to an observation. Am I the only one who saw what looked like a small debate on the sidelines between Favre and Mike McCarthy? There seems to be a lot of friction between them. This is the second week in a row they have had a heated exchange on the sidelines.
I think the bye week comes at just the right time. Not only does the team get a chance to mend but maybe it will give everybody a chance to settle down and re-focus on what could be a great season. If Favre and McCarthy are starting to butt heads, they need to sit down and hash it out. The worst thing that can happen is to let egos and pride get out of hand. The realization should be that no one person is bigger than the entire team. That goes for all the coaches and players. Even a future first ballot Hall of Famer.
Well since there will not be a Packer game next week, I will talk to you again in 2 weeks (Unless something good comes up).Until we tee it up again Packer Fans...SEEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
