A Recipe For Disaster

Add one defending NFC Champion hungry for redemption,  5-6 turnovers, and one in-decisive coach,  and you have the ingredients for last nights 27-20 debacle at Lambeau. How could a team dominate the first half a football game and then suddenly self-destruct? There was plenty of blame to go around.

Rookie WR James Jones coughed up the ball twice on what were possible scoring drives.

Charles Woodson , who is always careful with the ball on punt returns , fumbles it away.

Brett Favre had only 2 picks until the fateful one to Urlacher in the 3rd.

My question is "What happened to the play calling"? As soon as Favre threw that pick Mike McCarthy sent the offense into hibernation. Instead of playing to win, he started playing NOT to lose. When you take the wide open attack the Pack started with and then shut it down you are daring a team like Chicago to take the game over. The sad thing about that is that for the most part it was McCarthy, not the Bear defense, but McCarthy who shut Favre and company down. With 2:05 to play he turns to Favre and says "you have to pull this out"!  Nice job coach. Next time put your paranoia and your pride back in your purse and let your team gut it out.

I couldn't believe that he called a timeout with 16 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. You can't blame Brett for losing his cool. He could have spiked the ball and given the team 2 chances to score before settling for a  Field Goal.

What was with the officiating? On Benson's run for a first down on 3rd and 2 you could see an obvious hold by the Bears o-line. Jolly's jersey was stretched so far you could have used it for a sail!

Anyway,The Bears may have started the year badly, but they still are the defending NFC champions. You may not like that, but if you disrespect that, they will make you pay.  Every member of the Bears should personally thank Charles Tillman for keeping them in the game. His 2 strips of Jones in the first half is what turned the momentum of the game. If these James Jones fumbles did not occur,  it could have easily have been 21-7 (or better) at the half.  All in all, this was a very poor 2nd half effort.

If McCarthy doesn't have faith in what he teaches his team he needs to take a long look in the mirror and re-evaluate his chosen profession. Now don't get me wrong, personally I like Mike McCarthy, but it looked to me like he was afraid to turn loose his team like he did in the first half.   If he was mad at Favre for blowing up and trying to teach him who's boss,  he picked the wrong time and person to do it to.

Well I guess it's no use crying over spilled milk. Hopefully the Pack can regroup and send the Redskins home with another loss and be 5-1 at the bye week. Until next time Packer Fans.............. SEEEE YAAAAA!!!!!
