Hello again my friends, What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time San Diego was burning up the league while Green Bay sputtered along with little hope in sight. Nice to see the fortunes turning the Pack's way so far this year. You have to wonder what the Charger brain trust was thinking when it fired a coach that went 14-2 last year only to replace him with one that really hasn't proven himself twice before. Norv Turner is no Marty Schottenheimer. Marty may not have won the big one, but he would have given them a better chance than Turner.
This game was a nail biter all the way because it seemed that the defense didn't wake up until the 4th quarter. All game long San Diego was having no trouble moving down the field with crisp passes by Phillip Rivers to TE Antonio Gates. I can see the logic with trying to stop LT (which they did) but, when you are getting burned over and over again by one player you have to start paying attention to that. Thank goodness the "D" stepped up in the 4th. The coverage got a hell of a lot better and the pick by Barnett sealed the deal.
The offense had a above average day except for the chance to score on the 1 yd line only to have the team self-destruct, but in the end it all came together in this 31-24 victory. Donald Driver is proving week in and week out that he is one of if not THE toughest receiver in the league. He took a vicous hit in the first half only to put up 6 catches for 136 yds and 1 TD. Nice to see Greg Jennings back in form with his 57 yd TD burn of the Charger defense. Brett had a great day going 28-45 for 369 yds and the 3 TD's that tied legendary Dolphin's quarterback Dan Marino. When all is said and done Brett will probably break all of Marino's records.
And in due course Favre's will probably be broken by Peyton Manning if he stays healthy. But let's savor the moment and worry about those other things later. Now it's off to Minneapolis to take on the Viqueens in the Horrordome. Until next week Packer fans, SEEEEE YAAAA!!!!!!
