A Fitting End?

With a 23-17 victory over Seattle, the season finally came to an end for the Pack. A season filled with broken dreams and worse alot of broken players.Green Bay put 19 players on injured reserve this year and it showed. Gone was the punishing running of Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport. Gone was the big play ability of Javon Walker. The constant juggling of the offensive line caused Brett Favre to try and put the load on his shoulders. The result was a career worst 29 interceptions. Now the question is " Will Brett return or ride his mower off into the sunset"? Will Antonio Chatman become an answer to a trivia question? ( Who caught Brett Favre's last TD pass?) Not if the fans at Lambeau this last Sunday have their way. The chants of "1 More Year!" resonated throughout all of Brown County and to the many Packer fans watching on tv. If he does it was only fitting that he not only went out with a victory, but with a TD pass and having his mentor Mike Holmgren there to give him a few hugs before and after the game. One thing mentioned during the telecast was that Favre supposedly had a meeting with Ted Thompson and asked if next year was going to be a rebuilding year or was the organization going to try to sign as many of their own and other free agents to make a run next year. Favre reportedly said that if the plan was to rebuild that they didn't need a 15 year veteran when they had Aaron Rodgers waiting in the wings.

Another big question is "Will Mike Sherman be back?" I know alot of Packer fans and some so called football experts say give him the boot. But others , including myself, believe that he deserves another shot with a roster of top notch talent instead of the 4th and 5th stringers he was forced to play. Sherman has only 1 losing season out of 6 as head coach. And compared to some of the coaches that have come and gone in the NFL that's not bad. The other big issue facing Thompson is which of his free agents will he re-sign and who will he have to let go. Ryan Longwell, Ahman Green, KGB, Aaron Kampman, Mike Flanagan, and Najeh Davenport are just few of the 15 unrestricted free agents on the roster. With the strong showing of Samkon Gado and Noah Herron was this Green's last season as a Packer? There could be a number of new faces in Green and Gold next year. Let's hope some of the old ones stick around. Until next time Packer Fans.........SEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAA!!!!!
