Hello again gang! Sorry it's been so long between articles but the pain that is this season is hard to watch let alone write about. So I figured it's time to get a few things off my chest and try to put somethings into perspective.
First of all I'm tired of all these radio sports talk fools who keep bringing up the "it's time to sit Favre and start Rodgers". I especially have nothing good to say about Peter Brown from WSSP-AM 1250. I am sick to death about his constant whining about Favre. Hey Pete, do you actually think Rodgers has learned enough about the NFL to go in and try to lead an offense that has over 50% of it's starters missing? I have resigned myself that this is a lost season and no matter how hard Brett tries he can't win it all by himself. But to have a 1st round draft pick go out and try to replace a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer is laughable. The only way all of the back-ups who have been forced to start can get better is to learn from the best.
Fact is fact. Favre is not only the best qb on this team, he is one of the very best ever to play the game. I am not happy with all the picks Brett has thrown, but I realize it is a byproduct of his determination and pride. The fact that he believes he can do the impossible in an impossible situation gives one faith that there is hope. There are a lot of pro atheletes that would be content to sit back and just phone it in. Not Favre. And it seems to be contagious. In every loss you don't see any of the Packers just lying down and giving up. This team should not be vilified, it should be appreciated. We as fans have been accustomed to winning for so long that we take the Packers for granted. I here so many people who want to jump off the Green and Gold bandwagon it makes me sick. Gang ,it's like my grandmother always told me, " You have got to take the bitter with the better." This year will be bitter, but maybe this will make this team better in the long run that is yet to come. '
Another thing that grinds my beans is all of the "It's time to dump Sherman " talk. Mike Sherman is a good coach who got dealt a really rotten hand. Between the injuries and the players he lost to free agency he is trying to stop a runaway truck with a Yugo. Don't get me wrong. Mike made alot of mistakes as GM. Remember the Joe Johnson and Cletidus Hunt contract fiascos? Had that not happened maybe we could have kept Rivera , Wahle, and Sharper. That's why Ted Thompson is now GM. But if the injured can come back and pick up where they left off in the 2004 season and the o-line can get it together by the end of this year , 2006 could be good. And Sherman can teach them.
One of my biggest beefs is that in the last 3 years we have had 3 different Defensive cocordinators and we still have Tom Rossely as the Offensive coordinator. It seems that once we get a lead the team dosen't play to win but instead plays not to lose. The offense goes into grind it out mode and more often than not ends up either turning it over or punting it away. The West Coast Offense works best when it keeps attacking . I don't mean running up the score if the game is already out of reach, but you can't keep going 3 and out and putting the pressure on the defense to hold up. There are a lot of things that need fixing, hopefully our loyalty as fans isn't one of them.
Until next time my friends, .........................SEE YA!!!!!
