Finally Turning the Corner

After the 0-3 start you could tell that something was about to break open on this team. It started after the almost come from behind game at Carolina last Monday. Now with a patchwork lineup the Packers just tore apart the New Orleans Saints 52-3. Everything this team did today worked. The defense, the offense, special teams, and even the coaching seemed to go right. Favre had another solid performance with 3 TD passes and 0 picks.Najeh Davenport looked like he decided to make a statement in the running game getting 54 yds and 2 TDs before he was injured. Robert Ferguson must have taken Favre's words to heart because he had a respectible game.Donald Driver is emerging as the #1 WR with Walker hurt but, with this offense no one really is the #2 because if you're open Brett will get it to you. I like the acquisition of free agent TE Donald Lee. 2 games , 2 TDS. David Martin has stepped up and shown he too is a viable offensive weapon. With Bubba hurt, these 2 have really made the Tight Ends in this offense a reliable threat on every down. Hats off to Line Coach Larry Beightol for getting the most out this line today. With Flanagan out and Clifton playing hurt, these guys just pulled together and outplayed the Saints D-Line that was supposed to be the strength of the Saints defense. Nice to see that former Packer DB Mike McKenzie had little or no impact on the game. He missed more tackles than he made and went without a pick. Maybe one of the fans will give Mike a little cheese to eat with that big helping of crow.

The real story of the game gang was DEFENSE!! Except for 1 field goal on the first posesesion they just shut down Aaron Brooks and company. Al Harris is a likely candidate for NFC Defensive player of the week with his 2 picks (1 for a TD) and his hard-nosed play all game long. LB Nick Barnett will give Harris a run for the honor after going 95 yds for a TD with his pick in the second half. All we heard all week was how good the Saints were with running back Deuce McCallister and WR Donte Stallworth. After having solid games against Buffalo last week the Packer D shut them both down. Deuce only rushed for 31 yds and Stallworth had only 1 catch. The nice thing about being up 45-3 after 3 quarters is that Brett got to sit down and watch the heir apparent Aaron Rodgers play out the 4th. Well, not a lot to watch there fans. Sherman went into grind it out mode and Rodgers had only 1 pass for 2 yds to Vonta Leach. At least the kid got to play.

Thank God the Bye Week is here! It just might give the walking wounded a chance to heal. The team will go on the road after the bye with tough games against the Vikes and the Bengals. If this team shows as much heart the rest of the season as it did today, things could be lookng up for the Pack.

Until Next Time gang...............SEEEEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
