In What can only be described as pitiful the 2005 edition of  The Green Bay Packers took the field and promptly lost the first 2 games of the new season.  In Detroit the offense couldn't get on track. At home at Lambeau the defense looked lost. Add in the loss of Pro Bowl WR  Javon Walker and it would appear that losing is becoming a disturbing pattern. It would seem that the loss of Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera  and the ineffectiveness of the running game has put undue pressure on Brett Favre to try and shoulder the load on offense by himself.

Although Favre has a share of the blame for his 4 turnovers, part of the problem appears to be the play selection of Mike Sherman and offensive coordinator Tom Rossely. To say that the play calling is conservative is like saying that water is wet. Obvious to even the marginal football fan. After all the yapping by Robert Ferguson to become more involved in the offense it would appear to me that once Fergie gets over the middle his arms get shorter. Reminds me too much of Billy Schroeder. Considering time they spent on the field, the defense didn't look bad against the Lions. But against the Browns it looked like no one knew what the hell was going on.

It's too early to put the blame on new defensive coordinator Jim Bates, but what would the defense be like if then GM Sherman didn't kick Ed Donatel to the curb to cover his own butt in the playoff loss to Philly? As I see it, the Falcons turned into a pretty good defense when Ed got to Atlanta. Hopefully the team will gel and be able to salvage the season especially since the NFC North seems up for grabs.
