Well, it's official. Walker and his money-grubbing agent says he won't report to training camp. Rosenhaus says the Packers won't budge on renegotiating Walker's contract. Wow! What a surprise.
Reports say that Rosenhaus submitted a long term contract to the Packers in February that asks for more than the eight-year, $75 million deal that Randy Moss got from the Vikings in 2001. And he's surprised that the Packers won't talk to him. . . . Is this guy nuts, or what? My favorite quote from the article: "The Packers have refused to negotiate with us," Rosenhaus says. "They expect him to play the year out."
Wow! The nerve of the Packer organization to actually expect a player under contract, mind you, to play out his years. Who do the Packers think they are, for crying out loud? Let me just say right here and now that I think Rosenhaus is an idiot. He's ruining football single-handedly. He says "I haven't had very many holdouts in my career..." Looks like he wants to make up for that this year and mostly against the Packers. Which begs the question, what does he have against the Packers? Maybe Favre wouldn't let him play in his softball tournament and he got mad. And for what it's worth, I really hope is he reads this article and wants me to call him so he can explain the finer points of why it's alright for guy to break his word and hold out. (I'm sure my response would be a lot like that of Favre's when he said that Rosenhaus ...has nothing to say to me... ).
And then there's Walker. If you have to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the young receiver who is listening to the mental moron of NFL agents and getting wrong advice. While this may not completely destroy his career, sitting out for the remaining two years on his contract will definitely tarnish it. But before we go any further, I want to state for the record; I don't feel sorry for any of these guys. I'd have to work ten years at my job just to reach Walker's signing bonus. I'm sorry, Walker may be a great receiver somewhere down the road but right now he does not warrant those kinds of numbers. And Rosenhaus can only see the dollar signs so I'm sure that if Walker's skipping training camp, the entire 2006 season can't be that far behind. And it's also worth a note that according to the last report out of Philly, it's expected that Owens will be a no-show for the Eagles when they open came this month. And of course, don't forget Grady Jackson who's also going to holdout and all on the advice of this idiot.
Something has to be done about this guy, and those like him who are jeopardizing the great sport of football. It's a real simple call to pout and sit out when they don't think they're getting enough bling-bling for himself and his "suddenly the best damn football players in the game ever..." clients, who think they can go around and hold the football world hostage. Quite frankly, I hope that the Packers stick to their guns and tell Walker and Jackson and ROSENHAUS to take a flying leap and slam the door on all negotiating. And of course, don't trade any of them. Let them sit on the sidelines and watch their careers dry up until their contracts run out.
Hold the phone! I'm not as stupid as some NFL agents look. I know how that would cripple the entire team if that were to happen, which is why other than satisfying my morbid sense of vengeance, this is not a good idea. But it would serve those jokers right. See how many teams want their sorry butts after a couple of years out of the sport. They'll be so rusty they'll look like some of the cars you see in Northern Wisconsin. Anyway, unless something drastic changes, Walker and Jackson won't be in with the Packers come training camp and we'll have to find another way around the situation. And I believe they will.
My only thought is I hope those clowns can live with themselves in the end after they realize how selfish they've been and what they're doing to their team, their teammates and their fans by listening to the Attila the Hun of the NFL agent world. The other quote from his interview on HBO he taped last Friday and is scheduled to air next week that I thought was sort of humorous was when he said and I quote: "I can't let this player go out on the field and jeopardize his career for that kind of money. I just can't fathom it."
See? Maybe we've taken this guy all wrong. Maybe deep down he does care about his players and it's not all about the money. So here's my thinking. If Rosenhaus is so worried about this, why not have him fork over the money for Walker to play? That way Walker can play with the Packers this year and Rosenhaus can sleep nights! I think that's a great idea.
Until next time, Keep Driving Forward!
