Before I really get into this one gang, I want you to know just how hard it is to censor myself today.Today as I sat down to read my Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sports page I saw the "Speak Out" section and what I read sent me through the roof!!Part of the letter I read was a quote from Walker talking about his contract situation. This is the quote: "Anybody can say OK, he had a great year, let''s see if he can do it again. That''s like trying to tell a person to go to war in Iraq, but let me see if you can go to war again and come back and then we''ll give you the Medal of Honor. You can''t send a soldier out to a battlefield twice for him to be consistent." How in the hell does going of to war compare to Pro Football? Our brave men and women of our Armed Forces are in a hostile country laying their lives on the line each and every day.And what does Walker do? Puts on 30-40 pounds of protective gear and plays a GAME! A Game for crying out loud!! To have the audacity to compare the two really shows me how full of himself Walker has become. That comment was a slap in the face not only to those who are serving or have served in Iraq, but to every man and woman who has ever put on a military uniform .I speak from some experience. Although I myself have not served in the military, my stepson Ray Footland did back in Operation Desert Storm. My cousin Bill Teutchler served in Vietnam. My father Tony and several of my Uncles served in WWII. These people faced the possibilty of dying for their country as do our brave troops do today. What does Javon face everyday? What trendy restaurant or nightclub to attend maybe? What $1,000 suit to wear? Truth be told he is going to make more on his original contract than a whole platoon will make over the same period of time. For Walker to use this comparison makes me want to slap that stupid grin right of his face. I would love to see Walker go to Fort Campbell, KY. and tell his sad story to the 101st Airborne. Or to Parris Island and tell it to the Marines and Navy Seals. Better yet, send him to Iraq. Put a rifle in his hands and send him out on patrol and then maybe he will appreciate his situation instead of whining about it. Is it possible that Walker could lose his life on a football field? Yes, because it happened in Arena football this season. But is it probable? I think not. Most that could happen is a career ending injury that after the contract buyout would still leave him with a nice piece of coin in his pocket. A soldier can lose their limbs, or sight or worse, their life for a hell of a lot less money. But they will have one thing that no matter how much money Walker makes can buy. And that my friends is the courage to do a dangerous duty to protect our freedom and the pride of knowing they honored their contract to the American People. I don''t know about the rest of you but if this dosen''t make you madder than hell then you deserve the Javon Walkers of the world. Fans, it is up to us to let not only the Packers, or Walker and his agentbut everybody else know about how fed up we are with all the self centered, styling and profiling, me first horsecrap prima donnas! We have the best resource for this. You are on it right now. The World Wide Web. We , the Fraternity of the Frozen Tundra have an obligation to do this. And I also want to hear from you. The people that I love to do this for. The fans of the Green Bay Packers. To those of you who read this column I want to see the reply section at the bottom of this article filled with your comments.
Now I want to say a few things about how people have treated Brett Favre about his comments about Walker. #1. Favre did not go out and find a reporter to talk about this, They came to him. In a world of phony , selfish, greedy, and childish jocks it is refreshing that Favre came right out and spoke his mind without pulling a single punch. Some have gone so far to say that it is none of his business about the Walker situation. Bull! This is the leader of the offense. A first ballot Hall Of Famer. This is the group he is leading on to the field every week and his opinion counts.#2. What the hell is Darren Sharper''s problem? He came out and said Brett had no business saying what he said. Saying that since Brett wasn''t at camp he should have said nothing. Well Darren there is a difference. Favre was excused because of all the tragic events that had happened to him and his family over the last 13-14 months. Besides how much does Brett still have to learn at a mini - camp since he has led this team for the last 14 years? Sharper, if you were as good at making defensive backfield adjustments as you are running your mouth maybe "4 & 26" never would have happened!!! Oh by the way, Sharper couldn''t make the last mini camp for his new team because he was busy doing commentary for NFL Europe.
