In this past Sunday’s 21-10 loss to the Bears the Packers were simply out coached and out played. The Packers might have had more total yards, better time of possesion, but they were out coached. The Bears were well prepared for the Packer blitz by using a moving pocket and short crossing patterns, which burned the Packer defense, especially on third downs. Not too mention exploiting the middle of the Packers defensive line, which led to big gains by running back Thomas Jones. Without big Grady Jackson in the lineup, the Bears coaching staff attacked this vulnerable spot. Bob Slowik’s defense had no counter for the Bears game plan. On the offensive side of the ball, the Packers seemed persistant to run the ball to the right side their line. In the second half, they should have gone to more "play action" passes instead of always running to their right side. The Bears defense was well prepared for the Packers “bread and butter” running play. It was never more evident than Brian Urlacher’s hit on Ahman Green causing a crucial fumble. Mike Brown then returned the fumble for a touchdown, which was the turning point in the game. It appeared tackle Kevin Barry missed his assignment on the play, but a play action pass might have been a better alternative play. If you haven't noticed by now Packerbackers, Favre always has trouble against a "cover two" defense, it was obvious again on Sunday. Not that it would have mattered, but how can you not take the easy three points with under 2 minutes in the game. I could see the Pack going for it if it was 4th and 2, but not 4th and 8! Coach Sherman reminds me a lot of Marty Shottenheimer when Marty coached the Browns and Chiefs. The play calling is very conservative, their teams will make the playoffs, and that’s about it! Until next time, STAY SAFE!
