After a humiliating loss to the Vikings, the Packers came out with a vengence and tamed the Detroit Lions 31-6 in what can only be called "Packer Weather".A wet sloppy field made for the perfect conditions for the Pack to totally dominate the game.Ahman Green had a big day with 23 carries for 160 yards including a 65 yd scamper on the second play of the game for Green Bay's first TD.This is the kind of game that we as fans have come to expect from the Pack. Green ripping off big chunks on the ground and Favre controlling the air. Although Brett didn't have a Pro Bowl type of afternoon he got the job done. Considering he lost 2 of his 5 receivers the week before I think he did an admirable job. Something that Brett did before the game is what I think REALLY got this team going. He addressed the team. This is something that Brett dosen't do but thought that he probably had to after last week.He basically told the team that he was going to give it his all, leave everything he had on the field and challenged them to do the same.Afterwards Favre said that he dosen't expect to have to do this every week. Every player should WANT to do this every week and not be told to by a teammate, even if that teammate is a first ballot "Hall Of Fame " candidate.
Quote of the week by my buddy Antonio Freeman when asked about his first game back as a Packer: " I feel like a little kid who ran away and has come home". Free had 4 catches for 32 yds and seemed like his "Super Bowl Years " type of player.Always hustling and being where Favre needed him to be.I am still keeping an eye on him but I can only hope that he has grown up enough to be what this teams needs. A veteran who can help this young receiver corps get better and better week in and week out.
Now on to the defense who played what can only be described as an incredible game. Holding the Lions to 52 yds rushing, 6 points, getting 3 picks including Al Harris' 56 yarder for the knife in the heart TD.Na'il Diggs was all over the place as was both his linebacking mates, Hannibal Navies and Nick Barnett who got his first NFL pick in only his 2nd game. Add in the 12 tackles and I think you can say that Barnett made a statement this game. Way to go Nick! Now it is on to Tempe to face the Cards. If this team can carry over the enthusiasm of the Lions game over to this one I pity Arizona. If they can carry it over all season long it will be an exciting season to say the least for Packer Fans everywhere. Til Next time gang.............SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
