Whew…………………,that was a close one! The Pack came away with a close; but ugly win last week against the Falcons. Hopefully this week they can get a win without the ugliness. I can’t remember a Packer defense that had so many mental breakdowns. There was very little discipline as far as their assignments are concerned. The main rule for a safety is not to let anyone get behind you, so why was Brian Finneran wide open? Michael Vick is the answer! I thought I was watching Gale Sayers when Vick ran the ball. Even though Vick is an incredible talent, that still is no excuse for the blown assignments. I will guarantee that Joe Horn won’t drop an easy pass like Finneran did! There were some positives for the Pack, mostly on offense. Against one on one coverage, the receivers managed to get open and make plays. Last year that didn’t happen much, so that is a big improvement! It really looks like Javon Walker is going to be a good one. Ryan Longwell had good distance on his kick offs, lets hope it stays that way. Another positive was the hard running by Ahman Green and William Henderson. I do think Sherman and Rossley deserve a lot of credit for not abandoning the run when the Packers were losing. The running attack controlled the clock, which helped the defense cope with the extreme heat. To this day, is still firmly believe that if Mike Holmgren would have given the ball more to Dorsey Levens, the Packers would have won that Super Bowl against the Broncos. Instead the Packers lost time of possession and the Super Bowl.   So this week the Pack face the Saints and ex-Packer Aaron Brooks, which looks like another close one. The Saints are very compatible to the Falcons, except for all-pro wide receiver Joe Horn. I do think the Saints will test the Packer offense more than the “banged up” Falcon defense. Last week, the Saints defense applied constant pressure to Bucs quarterback Brad Johnson, so this will be a good test for the Packer offense. Last but not least, this will be played in a dome (Superdome), so lets hope for the best! I think it will be interesting to see how the “new” Packer receivers handle the crowd noise. It’s true that it is sort of a “home coming” for Favre. I know they won the Super Bowl there, but remember Packer Backers, it was a “neutral site” for the Super Bowl. This should be a good one, so sit back and enjoy it. Until next time, stay safe!
