49ers, Mariucci visit Lambeau

This week the 49ers will visit Lambeau to continue the Packer-49er playoff rivalry. Who could forget Desmond Howard’s returns in the mud or Terrell Owens touchdown catch? This should be one hell of a game this Sunday at Lambeau. The Packers will try and get revenge for the last playoff game against the Niners. You remember Packer Backers, Jerry Rice and that terrible call? Now that I have your blood boiling, the Packers should be helped by a banged up 49er defense. The Niners should be without defensive end John Engelberger and Chike Okeafor. This should help the Packers double team Bryant Young inside and prevent Favre from getting pressured up the middle. The weather shouldn’t be too cold, so Favre should have great day passing. Now for the bad part, the Packer run defense. The 49ers have as balanced attack on offense as there is in the league. Hearst, Owens, and Garcia will be very tough to stop, especially Garrison Hearst. I am sure Mike McKenzie can do a good job on Owens, but Hearst and Garcia present a problem with their running ability. Gilbert Brown should help the run defense, but stamina will be a question. Jeff Garcia is not afraid of putting the ball down and taking off also, so this will be tough for the Packer defense to stop.  One of the things to look for will be Steve Mariucci getting good matchups. Last year, he had figured out a way to get a linebacker on Charlie Garner and Terrell Owens for touchdowns. So look for Owens on crossing routes where Bernard Harris will try and defend across the middle. If Mariucci is smart he will try and get Owens matched up with Tyrone Williams. Being that Owens has an advantage in size, and a huge advantage because Tyrone can’t tackle, short passes could produce some big plays for the Niners. The Packer return game should get a big boost by the return of Allen Rossum. It appears Rossum will return punts and Dorsey Levens will handle kickoffs. I am so glad Rossum is back; I was getting sick of seeing Freeman catch the punt and fall down! So this has all the making of a great game, possibly overtime, with the Packers on top of course! On a different note, I hope the media will get off Brett’s back about the sack. It seems you can’t do something nice for someone these days. Some Players are on trial for murder, spitting on each other, taunting each other, squirting water on officials, and the media knocks Favre and Strahan? After 9/11 didn’t we learn about what is important? No one seemed to mention what a low class guy Gastineau was. He crossed the picket lines, wife beater and his sack dance, enough said! Until next time, enjoy the game and stay safe!
