The Pontiac Silverdome will be the location for this Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. This will be a match up of two teams with some things in common. No running games, injuries to key players, and inconsistent offenses, just to name a few. There is one thing that was really similar last week, and that was how their defensive backs got abused by Marcus Robinson and Randy Moss. Moss caught two jump balls for touchdowns against the Lions, while Robinson only caught one against the Packers. But Robinson caught a screen pass for a touchdown to make up the difference. A positive similarity is that both teams possess good kickers and a good kick return games. There is a good possibility that this game could be decided by a great return or a last second field goal. Detroit has our old friend Desmond Howard as their return specialist so this could be very interesting to watch on Sunday.

In the off-season the Lions acquired James Stewart to help their running attack, but he is off to a very slow start. A talented running back like Stewart can only be slowed down for so long before he will explode for some big games. If the Green Bay defense fails to hustle to the ball, you can expect a great game from Stewart at the Silverdome. This is basically a must game for the Pack who will be looking to even their wins and losses at three. Another loss in their division along with their remaining schedule will just about leave them with very slim chances of making a wild card berth. Hopefully they can win their next two games before their week off. They should have Holliday, Bradford, Parker, McKenzie, and Levens all healthy for the second half of the season. The extra week without a game should give Franks time to correct his rookie mistakes. There is big time pressure for Franks to perform due to the loss of Chumura. It has been very obvious the offense misses Chumura’s clutch third down catches and solid run blocking. Just keep in mind Packer Backers, Franks should still be in college, but I hope he matures in a hurry.

It might seem that I have been a bit hard on our quarterback and I maybe I have been too critical of Favre. You might say he has not performed all that bad, but he has not performed all that good either. His play is better than most of the quarterbacks in the league and that is not saying much. Last week, he had 80 yards passing after the first 40 minutes and three points to show for his efforts. In my opinion, that is not the performance of a quality quarterback. The Bears went into a prevent style defense which made it easy for Brett to move the ball downfield. Favre is not the only one to blame, the offensive line is terrible, Levens has been hurt, and #86 should be sent to Cincinnati for what ever the Packers can get for him. It is amazing the way a player signs a big contract and then suddenly becomes invisible. I hope this does not happen to Sharper if the Packers resign him at the end of this year. I will go easy on Favre in the future, but just remember Gretzky, Montana, and Babe Ruth got traded, it can happen to you Brett.

Just for fun trivia: In their history, the Lions had three all-pros wear the #20, who were they?
