Does the NFL need to investigate?

Hello all of you loyal Football ^FAN^atics,

I have a few questions that the NFL league officials need to clarify for the game watching audience.

The game was Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos; the officials made a questionable call against the home team. The Denver Broncos starting QB (Jake Plummer’s) forward momentum was stopped by being tackled but he never came in direct contact with the ground as he was sitting (actually) on an opponent. Jake Plummer then fumbled the football and the Colts recovered the fumble. The ref declared that is was a fumble. That meant the Indianapolis Colts now were going to be on offense.

The refs said that he was down so the Denver Broncos head coach threw the red flag asking the refs to review the call. The review showed that Jake Plummer never touched the ground, but his forward momentum was clearly stopped, which would have overturned the refs’ original call.

So why some players who are “Bench-warmers” secede their dignity by laying on the field

(Ground or turf) and let the team’s stars crawl on them to score a touchdown? Using this method, there is a conceivable way to stop that team from scoring, because that player never came in contact with the ground or turf!

That is why the NFL league officials should rewrite that rule. It should state along this order by saying something like this: “When a player in total control of the football, who gets tackled or his forward momentum is stopped by an opponent, the ref or refs blow the whistle, the play ends. The player, who is in total control of the football, doesn’t have to come in contact with the ground or turf for the play to end.”

Until my next article, Louie (LOUUP)
