Are they that bad?

According to the sports media all around the country the Packers are pathetic, are the Packers really that bad? At this moment I would have to agree with them. The key for the Packers is to improve each week, which is the key to the season! The young players need to improve with each game, I think they will, or at least I hope they will. The guards Spitz, Moll, and Colledge should build continuity as the season progresses.

Even though he got abused by the Bears, I think linebacker Brady Poppinga has a bright future in the N.F.L. Poppinga is intense, he hustles, and shows good closing speed, he should get better with each start.

On the flip side, if the Packers don't get better it's time to review their schemes and players. I do think if that's the case, I hope they trade Favre, if fact I think they will. I know Brett would have to approve of being traded, but I think it might happen. I honestly can see the Packers being 0-4 and the thoughts of moving Brett will increase.

If Brett was traded I think Tampa Bay would be a good fit for him. He would be reunited with Jon Gruden, he'd be familiar with the offense, plus he'll be closer to home. Tampa is really close to being a Super Bowl contender, Brett Favre might be the missing piece. Chris Simms will be a solid quarterback someday, but Chris might be a year or two away.

The way things are now for the Packers really isn't fair to Brett or Aaron Rodgers. Brett has Donald Driver, Ahman Green, and that about it as far as offensive weapons on the Packers. So the odds are stacked against Brett in Green Bay.

It isn't fair to label the team in a rebuilding mode and have Aaron Rodgers hold a clipboard. GM Ted Thompson has refused to get Brett any quality supporting cast, so if you’re rebuilding you have to let Aaron Rodgers play. The worst that could happen is that the Packers go 2-14 and then you can draft Brady Quinn.

The Packers and Ted Thompson made an interesting decision this week. I am still puzzled on how they balked on making a play for Deion Branch; they at least could have made an attempt. Instead the Packers decided to sign Koren Robinson! Koren is battling alcohol problems and could be suspended for a year for violating the N.F.L.'s drug policy. Could you picture Ron Wolf making this decision? Thompson might be worse than the players Mike Sherman drafted; now that's pretty bad! In defense of Thompson, he was asked a tough question at the Koren Robinson press conference. He was asked "What happens if Koren Robinson gets drunk and kills someone?" While anything is possible in life, that's a terrible thing to ask Thompson. Would it be better if Robinson got drunk and killed someone in Chicago? Or Kansas City? Is it any different if you or I killed someone while driving drunk? That is just a terrible thing no matter who does it, and I think Thompson deserves an apology! Let's just hope Koren Robinson makes some changes in his personal life.

I will be making my first visit to Green Bay on October 6th; I will be attending the game against the Rams. I am very much looking forward to the whole Green Bay Packers experience. Visiting Lambeau Field and the Packers Hall of Fame has always been a goal in my life! I am also looking forward to making some new friends when I am out there, especially in Fuzzy Thurston's place!

I am not sure if the people in Green Bay realize this, but here in New Jersey you have the reputation of being the nicest people you would want to meet. I have met numerous people who have visited Green Bay; they all say that the people, the town, and Lambeau Field are fantastic! I am sure I will feel the same, I can't wait! I would really appreciate any suggestions regarding my visit to Green Bay.

Until next time, STAY SAFE!
