The Packers are getting set to announce Mike McCarthy as their new head coach. I personally don’t think he is a bad choice for the job. He is suppose to be stern and direct kind of coach, so that’s a plus. He also has a friendship with Brett Favre since he was the Packers quarterback coach in 1999. So this might help persuade Brett to return for another year, so that’s a plus. He should help in the develope Aaron Rodgers into a quality quarterback, that is the last plus I see with him as head coach.
Now for the downside, Jim Bates might leave the Packers. Jim did a great job improving the Packers defense. Considering that he had little talent and a young squad, Jim had them going in the right direction. Bates was considered by most to be the favorite to replace Mike Sherman, which obviously leaves Jim with a great disappointment. If Bates leaves the defense will have to learn another new system, the third in as many years. Plus, that there are not any defensive minds as good as Jim Bates available. Expect the defense to be a complete joke if Bates leaves.
Here is the reason Packer fans will be doing housework on game day; the reason is Paul Hackett. There is a strong possibility that McCarthy will hire his long time friend as offesive coordinator. Hackett is worse than Tom Rossley, yes Packerbackers, it is possible! If that’s the case expect to have the MOST conservative offense imaginable. Five-yard crossing patterns will dominate the playbook. We can expect a draw play on 3rd and long situations. I watched him closely get ridden out of town by the Jets. Being that I am located in Jets/Giants country I have seen his act regularly. The Wisconsin media will have field day bashing him! Favre will never throw a pass over 20 yards, mark my words! I hope I am jumping the gun on hiring Hackett, but if I am correct, this team will be worse off than last year!
Until next time, STAY SAFE!
