The Draft, Javon , And Pack Talk

Hey gang!It has been awhile since my last article and to say a lot has happened would be an understatement. First, we lost several starters from last year including our starting guards Wahle and Rivera, and Our best Db in Darren Sharper. I hate to say it fans but we are in a bit of a cap crunch somewhat smilar but maybe not as bad as the Cowboys of the 80''s and the Niners of the 90''s. Ted Thompson has been put in charge of the business end and maybe that will take some of the pressure off of Coach Sherman. Now on to the draft. It was definetly a surprise when Cal QB Aaron Rodgers fell to the Pack with the 24th pick. As all the so-called experts are saying "they took the best athlete available". I really can''t argue about that. As much as we here in the Frozen Tundra hate to think about it, Brett Favre is going to eventually retire. Hopefully Rodgers will get 2-3 years to watch one of the best quarterbacks to ever take the field and take as much from Brett as he can to make the possible transition as smooth as possible. Yes, you are not seeing things. I said "possible" transition. I think it is a eerie coincidence that the first time the Pack takes a qb in so many years is from the same school that gave us our last 1st round qb. Anyone remember Rich Campbell ? Add in the fact that a lot of top college quarterbacks have a hard time making it in the NFL. Just look at guys like Tim Couch, Akili Smith, and robo-qb Todd Marinovich.

Now on to subject #2. Javon Walker and his possible hold out. Javon skipped the 1st minicamp and probably will skip the next. On a radio interview the other day he said the reason he is holding out is for a long term contract that will keep him a Packer for long time. In a phone interview with a Green Bay reporter Favre asked whatever happened to honoring your contract? If he holds out Favre said then he would rather play without him no matter how good a receiver he is. After talking to many friends and co-workers they agree with Brett.

Subject #3 Pack Talk. Steve was approached by a friend who has a sports talk show up in Rhinelander about having some of us do a weekly radio segment called "The I.Q. Boys".Steve did a show on 4/7/05 and I did mine last week. It is titled Week 8 . You can hear us on the internet at a site called myhometownsports.com. Click on "Pack Talk". Pick a show and listen.

Well my friends, it is time to leave you for now. But I will be back. After all life is good and the view is always interesting "From The Cheap Seats". Seeeeeeee Yaaaaaaaa !!!!
