Defense Mauls Panthers/McKenzie

Hello fellow Packer fans!! I will be the first to admit that I didn't think former defensive coordinator Ed Donatell deserved to get the ax for, dare I say it, the 4th and 26 debacle in last years play-off loss to the Eagles. But, after seeing what his replacement, Bob Slowik, let loose on Carolina last nght I can honestly say that it is definetly a noticeable improvement. I mean, they were coming from anywhere and everywhere! And except for the dumb penalties that led to the Panthers first score and the blown coverage on the second, this unit came to play and play it did. QB Jake Delhomme had his head on a swivel all night long and the Carolina running game was virtually non-existent. Anyone who had RB Stephen Davis on their fantasy team was extremely disapponited. Michael Hawthorne filled in admiralbly for the still MIA Mike McKenzie, who by the way is set to report to Green Bay sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. More on that later. Now that I''ve gushed about the D it's time to talk about the Offense. Brett Favre had a very pedestrian night by his standards but he moved the offense very smoothly and efficiently. But the star on offense was definetly RB Ahman Green. 119 yds and all 3 tds. Pretty good against a team like Carolina that Al Michaels and John Madden were going on and on about how good their defense was. Good ? Maybe. But it paled in comparison to Green Bay's. All in all it was terrific effort by the all of the Green and Gold. The big minuses though was the loss of NT Grady Jackson and RB Najeh Davenport. Grady is expected to be out somewhere around 4-8 weeks while Najeh is a day to day issue. But James Lee filled in nicely for Jackson and the always ready Tony Fisher did a nice job while in for Davenport.

Now on to the continuing saga that is CB Mike McKenzie. ESPN.com is reporting through McKenzie's agent that he will return to Titletown but still wants to be traded. The 2 issues are his unhappiness with his contract that he claims is too low compared to lesser CBs that have signed bigger deals in the last year or two. And the second is that he has issues with Coach Sherman.Well let's address these one at a time. The Contract. Mike, I have little sympathy for a guy who is scheduled to make 2.75 million this season (less fines and missed games). 3.43 in 2005 and 4.1 in 2006. That''s 10.28 MILLION in the next 3 years!!And that doesn't include what you already made the last 2 seasons or the signing bonus! As for having issues with Sherman, here is a little advice. GROW UP And COME IN And TALK TO THE MAN!!! What are you 4 years old for crying out loud? YOU have the issues NOT your AGENT!! Maybe if you came in and talked to Coach Sherman Man to Man you could resolve your issues and that just might put him in a better mood to settle your contract dispute. I mean, I'm probably not as smart as your 5th agent in 5 years but, it seems to make sense to me. Until next time Packer Fans.................................SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
