An afternoon with The Pack in Appleton

Hello again Packer fans! I hope you were one of the record 8,012 in attendance for the 5th annual Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game at Fox Cities Stadium. I was there in the first base side camera pit taking pics and getting interviews with LB Torrence Marshall and DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila!

But before I go any further there are some people I would like to thank. First, Event director Erin Smith for giving me the priviledge to be on the field by giving me Media credentials. Thank you Erin. Not many people would take the time to grant a columnist from a fan based internet site the courtesy you showed me. I had a blast! Second , a big thanks to Bob Nelson and Brian Madden from Lazer 103/ The fox 96.9 for letting me hang out with them for most of the game. You guys really made me feel welcome. Glad I could help you guys out as well. ( The pen) . These two guys are as funny in person as they are on radio. Maybe funnier.

And now onto the game. In a 4 inning exibition against the Bergstrom Blasters, the Pack went down to defeat 6-2. The highlight for Green Bay was a 2 run homer by WR Robert Ferguson. Then came THE GAME. Offense vs. Defense. In a real picher''''s duel the offense beat the defense 26-25. There were right around 70 HITS in this extra inning game. WR Javon Walker had a couple of dingers .In the first inning the offense hit 4 Homers in a row. One of the funniest moments was when RB Najeh Davenport came out to play first base late in the game wearing the wig and sunglasses from the Elvis impersonator. The same Elvis that was chased with a bat by KGB until he threw the autographed ball into the stands. And then after the game came the traditional post game pie fight. The scariest part came When Chuckie Nworkie hit Ahman Green very hard in the face and for a moment it was thought Green had his nose broken. I don''t think he did, but then since I didn''t have access to the locker room I couldn''t be sure. No matter what the outcome the real winners are the charities helped by the Brett Favre Forward Foundation In a time when all you hear from most pro superstars is me, me ,me, it warms your heart to see these athletes give their time to the many worthwhile charities Brett and his wife Deanna support. If you have never been to this event do yourself a favor. GO! I guarantee you will have a great time. This was my first and I certainly did.

Now it''s time for my interviews with Torrence Marshall And KGB. Thank you guys for giving a break to unknown web site reporter and really making his day.

Torence Marshall:

Question: With the defen se coming back pretty much intact this year what do you think your chances are coming into this season?

TM: there are a lot of people coming back , we made some key additions and we drafted a lot a good guys so I think we'll do pretty good this year.

Question: With the possible acqusition of Jason Gildon, if he comes , do you think he could make the defense even better?

TM: He is an outstanding pass rusher so I mean I''m pretty sure he could help the team you know but we have to see what happens.

Question: How are you feeling this year?

TM: I'm feeling pretty good you know, I'm just out here helping Brett and his foundation and trying not to get hit with no pies and so I'm over here trying to hide.

KGB

Question: With the possible exception of McKenzie not coming back and the rest of the defense pretty much intact what do you think your chances are this year?

KGB: I think it's always good personally so every year is always a new year and I always think we have a good chance and if I keep playing and Coach Sherman is doing a great job with the team so I think we have a great chance every year.

Question: With all the free agents that are available, is there any one that could come in and help the Packers right away?

KGB: I really don't know that side of the game. I don't really watch the board to see who's there.

Question: How are you feeling this year?

KGB: I'm feeling great and I'm looking forward to the pre season

JB: So close today.

KGB: so close, so close but we fell short for whatever reason ,the odds everyone was against us from the fans, from the umpires, but you know something we gave it a good run.

JB: If it's any consolation I was pulling for you.

KGB: Oh, I appreciate that thanks.

No, thank you guys. You gave us a great show.

P.S. If Steve can make it happen, look for an all picture column from the game sometime in the next week or two.
