The Packers have put together two straight impressive victories against N.F.C. opponents. Last Sunday’s victory over the Seahawks was the more impressive of the two. The past two weeks the Packer offense has had a solid running game and they have developed a rhythm in the passing game. By using more rollouts for Brett Farve the Packers have had the opposition on their heels. I am still wondering why it’s taken so long for Tom Rossley to be more aggressive with the play calling. I am aware that injuries are a part of the delay, but the coaches have to have confidence in all of their players. The Packers offensive line has been just “superb” with their run blocking and protecting Favre. The one area that doesn’t show up in the stats for the tight end is blocking. While his receiving yardage has not been too good, Bubba Franks has been a force blocking for Ahman Green. Keep it up Bubba! The different formations, the protection, and the running game all seem to clicking now for the Packers. There is still the area of the run defense and pass rush that still needs big improvement. The Packers couldn’t stop Anthony Thomas or Shaun Alexander the last two games, but the offense has bailed out the defense. This week comes the 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs, should be a good one at Lambeau. The Packers will need a great game from their kick coverage units to stop Dante Hall. Hopefully they’ll stay in their lanes and not blow any assignments. The other problem for the Pack this week will be Priest Holmes. Holmes is very explosive running and catching so the Packers will have their hands full. For some reason, I do think the defense will have some success containing Holmes. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s a gut feeling. The one thing I am afraid of is the Packer linebackers coming up to stop Holmes. This will make it easy for Tony Gonzales to get behind them for big receptions. This is where the defense will need a big game for safety Darren Sharper. Until next time, STAY SAFE!
