As of this writing the Vikings seem very interested in signing DT Vonnie Holliday and DB Tyrone Williams once the free agency signing period starts.Holliday IS a free agent while Willaims will be in March.(more on that to come later). The fact that the Packers hung the "transition player " tag on Cletidus Hunt instead of Holliday makes it appear that Vonnie will unfortunately be a salary cap victim. Although a steady player during his career in Green Bay Holliday had a sub-par season due to injuries. Even when he returned he still wasn't the same except for his 5 sack game against Buffalo.I only hope that Hollday and his agent aren't overestimating Vonnie's worth. That brings me back to Tyrone Williams ( see I told there would be more). The team asked Williams to renegotiate the last year of his contract so they could get more cap room and in return they would negotiate for his new contract extension. Williams said he wasn't going to sell himself short just to stay in Green Bay. Sound familliar? Does the name Antonio Freeman ring a bell? At best Willaims is an average cover corner. He has shown the talent to be a very good cover corner but not on a consistent basis.Too many times he has been either out of position, missed crucial tackles or was just plain burned because he wasn't focussed on his duties. In my opinion Bryant Westbrook is the better player and Green Bay needs to get him re-signed.
Which brings me to second half of this article, Is Terry Glenn in or out of this offense? There have been reports out of the pre-draft scouting combine that the Packers are sniffing around to deal Glenn out of Green Bay.Although Glenn didn't have a bad year he seemed to get hurt alot and sat out quite a few times last year. Were these really injuries or are all the stories out of New England just a bit too true? The main reason to shop Glenn could be that his replacement spent last season on the practice squad. Devin Lewis is a 6-2, 205 lbs receiver out of Southern University. The take on Lewis is that he has good height, good speed, long arms , and big hands. What gets me is that I was really behind Terry Glenn and had hoped that he was ready to prove everyone wrong. Maybe he still will.
