To say that the Packers had their way with the Detroit Lions in their 40-14 victory is like saying that Wilt Chamberlin was a little tall. Except for an early breakdown in coverage that led to the Lions 1st touchdown the defense played an absolutely brilliant game. Even though rookie qb Joey Harrington didn't get sacked he was forced into numerous quick throws. In time I beleive Harrington will be a terrific QB but not today. All week long all you heard about was how much the Lions were going to run, but that was before their offense ran into Gilbert Brown and company. Until a 56 yd run by James Stewart in the 2nd half the running D was stuffing every ball carrier it could get it's hands on. One defining play was on 4th and inches when Hardy Nickerson made an incredible stop to give the Packers the ball back in the first half. And what about the secondary? They played so aggresively after the long TD to Az-Hakim that former Packer Bill Schroeder didn't even come close to catching the 3 balls that came his way. In fact it was a deflection off Schroeder's hands that gave Marques Anderson his 2nd TD against the Lions on a 14 yd interception return. The rookie is having one hell of a season and should be in the running for rookie of the year honors. What about the play of LB Nate Wayne? He made an absolutely marvelous interception off a pass he deflected on 3rd and goal. If this defense can keep the plays like the 64 yarder to Hakim to a bare minimum you would have to say that the road to San Diego will have to go through Green Bay.

Now on to the offense. What can you say about Brett Favre except WOW!! If he dosen't win his 4th MVP there is something definetly wrong with the voters. In 3 quarters of work Favre was 26-39, 351 yds, and 2 TDs. Add in the fact that he had a 3rd TD taken away by the officials when they said that Terry Glenn was down at the 1 yd line (they were wrong) and he STILL had a great day. Brett seemed to be a bit upset today. On 4th and inches in the first half he was visibly angry at Mike Sherman's decision to kick a field goal instead of going for it. Plus the look he gave the officials when they reversed the TD by Glenn and you could see a unmistakeable fire in his eyes. I get that feeling that Brett thinks if he doesn't show an immense intensity on every play that the rest of the unit might start slacking off. Most definetly he is a leader by example. Donald Driver is having a Pro Bowl type season with 11 catches for 130 yds. Can you say Antonio who??? Driver is making every Packer fan forget about the troublesome Freeman w ith every catch. At the start of this season many people were wondering if Coach Sherman was just a bit crazy for signing the often injured and often maligned Terry Glenn. From all reports not only is Glenn making a big impact on the offense but is also making himself into a model citizen in and around the Green Bay area. Chris Collinsworth had told a story about how Glenn thanked the security guard at the gate to the practice facility every day for opening the gate for him. The guard said no need to thank me that's my job, but Glenn went on to say he knew that but he appreciated what he does anyway. Sometimes all someone needs is a chance and maybe a change of scenery. Terry Glenn got both and is making the best of it. There were a few injuries of note. Ahman Green was knocked silly late in the first half. He was alright and could have played but Sherman decided to rest him anyway. Najeh Davenport was on his way to a big day when he got bent backwards in an awkward position and had to be helped off the field. Davenport has been a very nice suprise this season and hopefully the injury will not be serious.

Now it's off to Minnesota to play a truly awful Vikings team. The one thing the Vikes have in their favor is that DAMN DOME!!! Hopefully Favre and Co. will shake off the curse of the Dome and come out victorious. Until next week Packer fans........SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!
