There have been many reports surfacing about Brett Favre wanting to retire, “say it ain’t so, Brett!” I think it has been blown way out of proportion, or at least that’s what I am hoping for. Brett just turned 33 this past Thursday, so I believe he could have another 5 good years left, maybe even more. I might be guilty of more wishful thinking but I have some valid reasons why I made that statement. First reason is that Brett still is having fun on the football field, how can he stop having fun? The second reason is that he is making better decisions with the football than he ever has! He still has the rocket arm and can still put a little touch on it when necessary. Another big reason is that he has young and talented players around him. Farve has had good players in years past, but not like he has now. The offensive line is young and sound, Driver, Walker, and Ferguson are receivers with lots of potential. Brett has never had anyone with the athletic ability of Ahman Green or Terry Glenn. Most importantly, the Packers will be Super Bowl contenders for the next few years; I can’t picture Favre leaving with the memory of that loss to Denver while he is fishing. For the last reason, and probably the least significant, are the record books. It’s very possible that he can break the record for touchdowns and wins for a quarterback. I am not implying that Favre is a stat hungry person, but the media and fans will be pushing him to get the records. I think #4 deserves it; I really hope he gets them. In an era where the players are constantly displaying their “ME ATTITUDE” it would be a shame to have a class act like Brett Favre retire. He has had his battles with painkillers and partying, but he stood up and dealt with it like a man. There was no whining out of him, just class! The N.F.L needs players like Brett Favre to offset the players who set a bad example for kids. After your performance last Monday, How can you retire Brett? Until next time, stay safe!
