So much for the big bad Raven defense and their middle linebacker Ray ………what’s his name? As much as the football media talks about the Raven defense, the real story is the Packer offensive line. I have never seen a Packer offensive line pass protect any better than they did this past Sunday. Week after week, they show that they are for real; they are a force to be reckoned with! Brett Favre showed why he is still the best in the N.F.L. by tearing apart the Raven defense for 335 yards and three touchdowns. In my last article I mentioned the best way to attack the Raven defense was to go with four wide sets and it was proven in the Packer victory. But by using a four wide set, this can put enormous pressure on the offensive line to protect the passer, and they were up to the challenge. It kind of reminded me of the Super Bowl Packers because Antonio Freeman played like he did before signing that huge contract. It’s about time Antonio!
There were a couple things that I didn’t like in the victory. The first being special teams still need improvement. Our kick coverage needs a lot to be desired! Hopefully when Allen Rossum returns it will provide a spark to our return game. The other thing that concerned me was some conservative play calling on offense. In the Tampa game, it appeared the offense was conservative and tried not to lose the game, instead of putting them away. The Packer offense had no trouble at all moving against the Raven defense, but with the ball inside the Packer five yard line, they ran three times! I liked our chances of taking the ball ninety-seven yards for a score; due to the way the offense was playing. Now that would have really demoralized the Ravens defense, have some confidence Sherman. Even with that being said, Mike Sherman and his coaching staff are doing an exceptional job of getting the Packers prepared for their opponents week after week. Well next week the Packers go to their “house of horrors” the Metrodome. Last year was no problem and I hope this year will be the same. So have a good week and stay safe!
