Looking back at the loss to Tampa Bay, the Packer coaching staff can find some good things and some bad things about the game. So lets start with the bad things that need improvement. First thing that needs improvement is the red zone offense. It seems that the offense should be able to get more productivity out of the running game in the red zone. An example of this is a pass play on first and goal, which led to a Favre interception for a touchdown. When you have a tough inside runner like Green, he should be able to run it in more than he has so far. To be successful running in the red zone you need the offensive line to want it more than the defense, the line needs an “attitude”! But looking back at that interception, Franks has to get better distance when releasing into his route. Even though it wasn’t a good throw, Bubba has to use his body better than he did. I am still trying to figure out why they called a reverse on third and ten, to Freeman no less? The defense has dropped back and was just waiting to react to anything in front of them. I like the play itself, but not at that down and distance! In a crucial point in the game you have to maintain your composure. Schroeder had a good game going until he retaliated and took away a Packer first down. These are the bad points that have to be corrected to win games in the N.F.L.
On the brighter side the defense played well enough to win, but then again Tampa is not known for their offense. Except for a few missed coverages, the secondary played well but they have to tighten up on the oppositions #1 receiver. I thought the depth at defensive line showed in this game by being able to rotate players to cope with the heat. The most positive thing about the defense was the “Beer Man”; he had registered three more sacks and caused a fumble. The time will come very soon where the opposing line will start to double-team him, which should leave Vonnie one on one on the other side. Let’s just say the “Beer Man” has made an impact in his second season! Well this week should be similar to the Tampa game, another defensive battle. Like most of the Packer Backers, I am wondering what formations they will use against the Ravens defense? I think the best chance is to use some four wide sets and try to attack Rod Woodson. Being that Rod is getting up in age, they should be able to take advantage of him. Well what ever they try, I hope it works! Until next week, enjoy the game and stay safe!
