Packers get physical 37-0

This past Monday night the nation witnessed a beautiful and heartwarming pre-game ceremony. With the American flag stretched out over Lambeau and flags waving in the stands the Packer fans showed the nation that they truly have the American Spirit. It was a very emotional moment for everyone when linebacker Chris Gizzi led the charge by running out waving the American flag while running across the green grass of Lambeau. That spirit continued into the game, as the Pack dominated the struggling Skins 37-0. Both teams continued where they left off after week one, the Pack looking impressive and the Skins looking terrible. The Packer defense looked dominating at times, but they were helped by a Redskin offense that refused to throw the ball downfield. This enabled the Packers secondary to jump the short routes, which made it hard for the Skins to sustain any kind of drive.

For the second straight week, the pass rush was impressive. The defense was able to pressure George by rushing the four down lineman most of the night by using some stunts and just plain intensity! It was really good to see Steve Warren back at the tackle spot. Despite missing Steven Davis in the backfield in the third quarter, he was able to push the pocket on a consistent basis. By having Warren and Billy Lyon playing well it just adds depth on the defensive line which will really show late in the forth quarter of games. On the offensive side of the ball, the line was very solid in their pass protection and really got physical in the third quarter. This enabled Brett to look for his second and third receivers. The use of two tight ends were very effective for the running game as Franks and Martin have shown they are really getting better with their blocking techniques. They were especially effective by sealing off the defensive ends of Washington, which enabled Ahman Green to get to the outside for some nice gains. Green was very physical all night punishing would be tacklers and never stopped moving his legs. At times when Green would lower his shoulder into a defender it made me think of the great Walter Payton. It sure was nice to see Green running hard and Favre not running for his life.

I am not sure how many fans watch the players without the ball, but next week I would suggest watching a player who doesn’t have the ball. That player is William Henderson; he had just an awesome game by blowing linebackers out of Ahman’s way. William has really played with an attitude and it shows by Green’s success. Great Going William! I know it is really hard not to be excited about the way the Pack has looked in their first two games, but remember whom they have played. Detroit and Washington have been absolutely horrible in their other games, so when the Packers beat Tampa in week four, then get we can get excited. One other note, how many fantasy players have taken my advice and taken the Cleveland defense? For those of you who have taken them, good going! Take care and I will be back soon with some thoughts about the Carolina game next week.
