The Pack-Like It Is

Don’t believe the tease

Once again the Packers appear to be teasing the fans with slim hopes of making the playoffs. By beating the Bears and Lions the Pack still has a shot of making the playoffs, but don’t believe the tease. The Pack needs to win its last two games against Minnesota and Tampa Bay to have any hope of making the playoffs. While I do think they will beat Tampa Bay, this week could be a different story. The Vikings have feasted on turnovers when the Pack comes to town, mostly due to crowd noise at the Metrodome. Our young tackles will have their work cut out for them, but I think they will do a good job this week. They have been the biggest surprise this year and it appears they will be solid for years to come.

There is always something that goes wrong for the Pack in that lousy dome, so don’t get your hopes up Packer Backers. It is really hard to respect the Vikings after so many years at Metropolitan Stadium. I often see the films of games at Metropolitan Stadium, the blowtorches warming the field and the ice in the beard of their Viking mascot. That is football, now they have lowered themselves to play in a dome. Any die hard Viking fan will admit this game should be played in the cold and snow of December, the way real men play football. Packer Backers don’t be teased about playoff hopes; they will probably end in that lousy dome.

I was disappointed the Pack lost Craig Heimberger to the Bengals. Craig has talent but needed game experience the Packers could not give him. He was exceptional as a pulling guard, he also posses quickness and coordination for the position, something that is rare for a guard these days. Don’t be surprised to see him in the Pro Bowl someday. Another member of the Packer training camp, Bobby Brown will get some playing time in Cleveland this week. Brown is a receiver with good size and excellent hands and should turn out to be a solid pro in the future. The only knock against Brown is a lack of blazing speed. Sterling, Carter, and Rice did not have speed and they were the best I have seen. Good size, no speed, and excellent hands, sounds like Freeman, except for the hands part! Good luck to the Pack, prove me wrong guys!
