An Inaugural Trip to Lambeau

I understand it has been a while since this “Cheesehead” has written for PackerIQ.com. There really are no excuses. I thank God for columnists like Jim Bacik and Bill Gallagher that keep the PackerIQ.com visitors in loop with the latest happenings of the Pack. Arriving from Atlanta last night, I am sitting now in Racine, Wisconsin waiting for Monday night. Intense, my brother-in-law, my father who flew in from North Carolina, and I are having a family reunion of sorts this weekend for the game. I hope that it is not a blow out for my reunion and first game at Lambeau field. I am still trying to be an optimist as far as the Packer season goes. I think we have a chance against the Vikings this Monday because we seem to play better at Lambeau, and anything can happen in the “Black and Blue” division. I am not naïve thinking that it will not be an uphill battle but I know we have to keep the faith. Looking at the last spread on the game (3-1/2), I think the media has not counted us out.

The Vikings have an offensive powerhouse that very few teams have been able to pull the plug on. Tampa Bay was able to do it last week and score over 40 points with a quarterback named Shaun King. If I were to choose a quarterback to play at home I much would rather have a Favre than a King, wouldn’t you? I think the key to this game will be momentum. The team that controls the momentum will control the game. Momentum builds confidence and I think that is one the things the Packers are lacking this year. One week the defense looks good, and the offense struggles. The next week special teams blow it when the other two squads perform well. . I feel we have the talent on the field if all the aspects of the team pull together. Momentum can cause that to happen. If we keep the Vikings out the end zone early in the game, with their defense and an intelligent Favre we can come out with a victory. I guess I just have a feeling for my first game at Lambeau I hope I am right.

The boys and I are heading up early on Monday to tour the Packer Hall of Fame and get some tailgating in before the game. We are going to call on the spirit of Lombardi, Lambeau, and Nitschke to help the Pack get a victory on Monday night. If the Tampa Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Steelers can start to turn their season around so can the Packers.
