Mariucci Comes to Town

Steve Mariucci will be coming back to Green Bay with his 49ers for a showdown against his buddy Brett Favre on Sunday. With Mariucci, comes a young 49er team that is much improved from last season. Jeff Garcia, the 49ers quarterback is second in the NFC in passing and Terrell Owens leads the league in receiving. Owens leads the league in receiving despite being suspended by Mariucci for being "a jerk" in their game against Dallas. I am glad that Dallas got a taste of their own medicine, though I do not condone what Owens did. Despite a 2-4 record, the 49ers are competitive this year and seem to be building toward the future. Their offensive line has only given up two sacks this year and Charlie Garner leads the league in rushing. It is a big help to the offense when your quarterback runs for first downs instead of throwing into double coverage.

Mariucci had helped Favre become the winner of three MVP's, so it is safe to say; Brett owes him a great deal of thanks. Mariucci should be commended for his handling of the Steve Young and the Terrell Owens situations. Steve Mariucci is a classy guy, and who knows, he may wear the green and gold again someday. In my opinion, at the end of last season would have been a good time. I have failed to mention the greatest forty-whiner of them all, Jerry Rice. Rice this year has four touchdowns and about ten tantrums per game. Mariucci should have suspended Rice and not let him get away with his constant complaining and arguing on the sidelines, you are really setting a good example for the kids Jerry!

The 49ers have probably the worse defense in all of football, so Favre should look good this week. Favre had a good game against Arizona, so this game he should be able to pad his stats even more. Hopefully Clifton will help solidify the left tackle spot and help out the blind side so the Pack can stop giving up sacks and fumbles. Who knows, maybe next game we can figure out what to do with Freeman. "I have a few ideas myself!!"

Just for fun trivia: What current 49er played for the Packers and the Citadel?
