Ron Wolf and the Trade Deadline

With the trade deadline approaching, and the Packers struggling, every Packers fan has to wonder what Wolf has up his sleeve. I have heard rumors that the Saints might do some trading with the Pack, but no names were mentioned. I did hear that the Saints are interested in acquiring some draft picks. The only player on the Saints that the Packers could use is Willie Roaf, but not even Ditka would trade him. With the salary cap causing problems for most teams there is a strong possibility of the Packers not making any trades at all. If there is a trade out there that could help the Packers, Ron Wolf will find it. He has acquired K.D.Williams, Allen Rossum, and Nate Wayne who have filled in nicely to help fill in spots where the Packers needed help. These players might not be top caliber players just yet, but they are giving a strong effort when called upon. Williams, Rossum, and Wayne are still young players and still might turn out to be very good players in the years to come.

I have been a supporter of Ron Wolf for a long time, even before he came to the Pack. The man has proven time and time again he knows talent and how to get it. The only knock against Ron is that he has had terrible luck with his top picks for the Packers. It has been that way ever since his first top pick he used for Terrell Buckley. But Wolf has made up for it many times over, by building a quality organization in Green Bay. Wolf seems to be losing his cool when speaking with the media by answering questions by saying “do you guys understand that we are an injured football team?” The pressure must getting to him, especially after getting that tax bill passed.

It’s true, the Packers have had more injuries that you can ever expect, but that is just part of the reason they are losing. As far as the starters are concerned, the most significant injury was Dotson’s back because it left the Packers no choice but to start Tauscher. All pre season Wolf was patting himself on the back for drafting Tauscher, so don’t use him as an excuse now Ron. Wolf knew after last season that Dotson might not be able to play this year. Next injury of importance, Levens has not been the same back since he was injured against Tampa Bay. He still is a good back, but aside from a couple fumbles, Green has not been that bad running the ball. Mike McKenzie’s injury hurt the Pack in the Jets game; I think McBride has done a solid job in McKenzie’s absence. As far as Holliday goes, Hunt has looked just as good, if not better. And last but not least, Tyrone Davis, all he is a dropped pass waiting to happen. Wolf clearly expected the offensive line to play well and they are not. So stop blaming injuries Ron, just admit you were wrong when you led everyone to believe this was a good offensive line, because they are not. I made a mistake myself in my last article by giving Sherman credit for benching Whale. I found out he was injured during the game, sorry for the mistake. I had to watch the game without the sound so I was not informed of the injury. Clifton did not look bad in there; hopefully he can build of the good effort. Ross Verba was quoted as saying, “five turnovers and we still almost came back,” and then he added, “that’s how good this team is.” I’ve got news for you Ross; good teams don’t turn it over five times. No wonder the offensive line plays poorly every week.
